Building Networks that Support Frontline Workers: Healthcare Connect in New Orleans

This week we are headed to New Orleans for Healthcare Connect: Developing the Frontline Workforce Together. The conference is presented by the National Fund’s CareerSTAT and Hope Street Group’s Health Careers Pathways Network. It is one of the first gatherings of its kind, bringing together nearly 175 people, representing 40 healthcare organizations from 21 states, plus workforce and economic development leaders, education and training providers, and philanthropic organizations.

Each of these constituencies plays a critical role in developing the frontline healthcare workforce, and together, they will learn and explore opportunities to hire, train, and retrain critical staff, leading to better economic opportunities, better patient outcomes, and improved community health.

Healthcare Connect is designed not as a traditional conference, but as a network building event. The goal is to create connections and send attendees home with information, contacts, and strategies to strengthen the frontline workforce.

The discussion areas are the following (complete agenda and list of presenters):

  • Implementing Healthcare Apprenticeships to Fill Skill Gaps
  • Adopting Equity and Inclusion Practices
  • Developing Pipelines and Pathways for Frontline Workers
  • Designing and Marketing Your Talent Development Strategy

The National Fund and Hope Street Group staff members are spreading out across the learning tracks, and we will be collecting key insights in a series of mini-blogs to be posted immediately following the event. Watch this space.

We also invite you to follow along in real time on Twitter and LinkedIn. The official hashtag of the event is #HealthcareConnect. Be sure to follow @National_Fund and @HSG_Workforce.

The event kicks off on the afternoon of October 24 with a reception and awards ceremony, where CareerSTAT will honor the 2018 Frontline Healthcare Worker Champions and Emerging Champions. Also check out our blog series on some of these employer champions here and here.
