UpSkill America

UpSkill America is an employer-led movement to expand economic opportunity for America’s workers.

UpSkill America’s Mission

As the economy continues to improve, many employers are struggling to find skilled workers to fill the jobs they are creating. At the same time, tens of millions of frontline America’s workers in low-wage jobs could be trained to fill more skilled roles but lack a clear career path. These workers are only half as likely as their higher-skilled colleagues to receive career-relevant training.

UpSkill America and its partners recognize the critical need to help frontline employees—from food service workers to daycare providers, from health care workers to construction laborers—obtain new skills. The U.S. needs more business leaders to invest in effectively upskilling their workers. Leading the way to the middle class for more hardworking Americans is good for business and good for America.

National Fund Partnership

In 2015, the National Fund for Workforce Solutions joined eight national workforce, human resource, and economic development organizations to launch UpSkill America. As an employer-led movement working to expand economic opportunity for American workers, the initiative recognizes businesses with promising approaches to developing their workers and encourages widespread adoption of business practices that offer quality jobs to their employees. The National Fund supports UpSkill America by offering access to its thousands of businesses working in National Fund-supported industries, documenting effective business practices, and asking others to join the movement.

UpSkill America Statement of Principles

UpSkill America and its partners believe:

  • Investing in the skills of workers is good for businesses, employees, communities and the nation.
  • Education, training and development is critical in order for workers to advance in their careers and earn better wages.
  • Upskilling is most effective when employers, workers and education/training providers are all fully committed in partnership to the success of the endeavor.
