Shifting the Childcare Industry: Better Jobs for Better Access

Childcare is out of reach for a vast number of working families, in large part because the sector itself is in crisis—marked by low wages, staffing shortages, and regulatory hurdles that limit both access and supply.

This initiative addresses the issue by improving job quality for childcare educators and providers , supporting self-employed providers, and advocating for policy and regulatory changes that strengthen the childcare workforce. With our local Network Partners and deep collaboration with their local stakeholders, the National Fund is co-creating solutions that reflect each community’s needs, with the goal of expanding access to care, attracting and retaining more educators and providers through job quality interventions, and advancing equity in a field where women and people of color make up the vast majority of the workforce.
