Being selected as a Frontline Healthcare Worker Champion gives employers national recognition for their workforce development strategies. Each organization receives customized marketing materials, is featured in CareerSTAT communications, and provided access to peer learning and technical assistance to further their advancement programs.
Organizations that meet all of the peer-defined criteria are recognized as Champions; an Emerging Champion designation is awarded to organizations that meet some, but not all of the criteria.
We will be honoring the selected Champion and Emerging Champion organizations later this year at The Time is Now.
Representing 51 organizations across the country and the healthcare continuum, Frontline Champions are creating business impact by investing in the skills and educations of their frontline employees. While all CareerSTAT Champions are making significant investments in the skills and careers of their frontline employees, recognition is separated into Champion and Emerging Champion organizations.
Emerging Champions are organizations that are in the earlier stages of making investments in the skill and career development of their employees. They meet some, but not all, of CareerSTAT’s recognition criteria.
CareerSTAT operated the first cohort of its Employer Academy from 2017-2018 to help healthcare organizations implement and scale programs that develop their frontline workers. The Academy was a year-long learning experience with customized webinars, coaching, a two-day in-person session with peers and subject matter experts, and an industry-led community of practice. Selected organizations received free technical assistance on key issues including:
Making the business case for increased investment in frontline workers,
Developing infrastructure to sustain workforce programming,
Conducting impact analysis of workforce programs,
Developing or expanding strategic workforce development plans, or
Creating targeted frontline workforce programs.
Participants received technical assistance from peer organizations including CareerSTAT Champion Employers, national consultants, and from the staff at the National Fund for Workforce Solutions. The Academy drew from the CareerSTAT Guide, employer best practices, and other resources to help healthcare organizations advance frontline workers. During the Academy, each employer developed or expanded their organization’s workforce development plans and can apply for matching grant funds to support the work or cover related expenses.
The 11 organizations in the first cohort included:
UnityPoint Health’s Des Moines hospitals and clinics are connecting the dots between developing a skilled workforce and delivering better care. UPH was selected as Frontline Champion in 2015 for its culture of learning and infrastructure supporting frontline employees.
